Matting Provision

British Gymnastics have released a very detailed document on matting provision with differing advice for a variety of venues and circumstances. Please read the entire BG Matting Provision Download for full recommendations including the type and location of the mats that should be used.

In all circumstances TC recommend using safety end decks and gym floor mats from end deck to end deck along the sides of trampolines in all trampolining environments as a minimum safety standard.

HAVE YOU GOT THE RIGHT MATS? ARE YOU COVERED?

It is shocking to find that many school & leisure centres do not use safety floor mats around the trampoline area during their trampolining sessions, and some of those that do have mats are providing inadequate matting provision.

Now’s the time to make sure you are following best practice guidelines and that you are offering a safe trampolining environment to your pupils. There have been instances where pupils have fallen from the trampoline to the floor, resulting in broken bones, that have then lodged an insurance claim against the school even though the accident was a direct result of the pupil disobeying the teachers instructions.

If you can foresee a risk of accident or injury and you do nothing to prevent or reduce that risk are you liable?
